Our team of Registered Nurses will come to your home and provide excellent overnight care for your baby so you can get some much-needed rest. Our dedicated staff includes nurses with backgrounds in NICU, Mother-Baby care, and Labor & Delivery who follow AAP guidelines and provide evidence-based advice and care. We thoughtfully choose the best fit for your family based on your specific birth story and needs.
The objective here is for you to get some much-needed rest while the nurse tends to your baby through the night. We can help you get the rest you need regardless of the baby’s nighttime feeding routine. Although we are not sleep trainers, we can help with establishing good sleep habits by observing sleep patterns and making appropriate suggestions. Your baby’s nurse will stay with your baby at all times; safety is our top priority.

What is a night nurse?
The term “night nurse” has been used rather loosely to refer to any newborn care specialist, postpartum doula, or caregiver. In many cases, the “night nurse” may not have been a nurse at all. However, at Orlando Lactation & Newborn Services, our entire night nursing staff are nurses trained in newborn care and working in labor and delivery, NICU, mother/baby, or pediatrics
What hours does the nurse work?
Days of the week and hours are flexible to meet individual family needs with a minimum of 8-hour night shifts and 4-hour day shifts.
What are the typical amount of nights a family uses a night nurse?
Each family has different needs. Maybe you have family that can help for a while, or a significant other that will be able to provide the support you need during the first challenging weeks. In that case, you may only need a nurse a few nights a week to give you a break. Or, perhaps your partner must go back to work right away, you have no family that can help, and you know you will struggle to get the rest you need. In this case, you may need more help. There is no one right answer, which is why our night nursing services are completely customizable. However, to ensure staff availability, we do recommend starting with more nights than you think you’ll need and then cutting back rather than trying to add nights once we begin.
Can we increase or decrease the number of nights we use you services?
Yes, you can either increase or decrease the number of nights at any time. There is no penalty for decreasing the number of nights you use our services, and we can increase the number of nights based on staff availability. To help ensure you get the help you need, we recommend starting with more nights than you think you’ll need and then cutting back rather than trying to add nights once we begin.
How many different nurses will work with our family?
The number of nurses assigned to your family will depend on the number of days or nights per week you need help. For example, if you use our services only 2 days a week, then you will most likely be assigned one nurse. However, if you are using our services for, say, 5 or more nights, then your team could consist of 2 or 3 nurses depending on the staffing that is available at the time. Either way, regardless of the number of nurses you have, your team is your team and will consist of the same nurses that will work with your family for the duration of your time with us. This helps us provide consistency and the best quality of support possible.
Does the nurse sleep train the baby?
While we do have a sleep trainer on staff, our nurses themselves are not sleep trainers. They have, however, been trained on establishing good sleep habits and implement this training while working with your family. Establishing good sleep habits is essential if you and your newborn are going to get the proper rest you both need. To help facilitate that, our nurses will work to provide an optimal sleeping environment for your baby, keeping the room dark, quiet, and cool. When your baby wakes for feedings, the nurse will ensure there is minimal stimulation. Your baby will be fed and right back to sleep
Can the nurse assist with breastfeeding or pumping?
Yes. All our nurses have some level of training in breastfeeding support and should be able to assist in achieving your breastfeeding goals. Additionally, we have a dedicated team of certified lactation consultants on staff who can address a wide variety of lactation-related situations. If you do work with our lactation consultants, we will coordinate with your nursing team to help implement your care plan
What does the nurse do while she is with us?
From feeding, changing diapers, burping, bathing, and putting the baby to sleep to washing the baby’s laundry, tidying and stocking the nursery, and washing any bottles and pump parts as needed, our dedicated nurses can take care of all your baby’s needs. She can also assist mom with breastfeeding and any additional maternal recovery needs as well.
What do we provide for the nurse while she is in our home?
The nurse will stay with your baby at all times. The only thing we ask is that you provide a comfortable place for her to sit while your baby is sleeping. Something like a recliner, couch, or rocker would suffice. The nurse will bring everything else she needs.
Do we need to provide a place for the nurse to sleep?
No. Our nurses are required to stay awake and attentive to your baby’s needs throughout their entire shift. While she will relax between feedings, she will not sleep while on shift.
Does the nurse assist with any house chores?
The nurse is there to take care of your baby and all things related to the baby. They will make sure the baby’s room is clean and tidy, the diaper pail is empty, supplies are refilled, bottles and pump parts are washed, and the baby’s laundry is done. Our nurses should not be expected to assist with household chores not directly related to your baby’s care.
We are thinking about a night nurse, when should we reach out?
If you’re thinking of hiring a night nurse, go ahead and give us a call. We can talk about your particular needs and look at availability. We schedule on a first-come, first-served basis, and once we are fully booked, it is very difficult to take on new families. You can never get on our schedule too early!
We weren’t planning on having a night nurse, but after delivery, if we feel overwhelmed, don’t have the support we thought we had, mom isn’t healing well, etc., can we still reach out and have a nurse?
Absolutely. If we have staff available, we will do our best to accommodate your needs. With last-minute requests, we might not be able to give you the number of nights you need on specific days, but we will try our best to help you recover and get as much rest as you need
What forms of payment do you accept for the night nursing services?
We give you the option of paying via your bank account or credit card. If you pay via your bank account, Orlando Lactation and Newborn Services pays the 1% bank-imposed transaction fee. If you pay using a credit card or HSA, the corresponding transaction fee will be passed along to you.
Do you require a deposit or prepay for services?
We do require a $350 non-refundable Company Fee that secures your nursing team and covers the up-front cost associated with setting up your account. We do not accept prepayment for our services. You will only pay for services rendered weekly.
"I cannot sing Kristen's praises enough. She also has a great team on hand for additional services like night nursing. The sleep consultant came to help us one night and it was so nice to have someone so competent (NICU nurse) to tend to her as we had a scare in the hospital and felt we couldn’t leave her with someone without medical training for a few weeks. 10/10 you absolutely need Kristen in your life."
" We are so thankful for Kristen and her team. We will always be grateful for their support as new parents navigating several challenges the first few months with our son. We can't recommend them enough and feel it has been one of the best investments we could have made."
